Susie Smith's New Gift
For the past three years I have served as President of the Thousand Islands Land Trust in Clayton, NY. The new President presented me with a milk bottle full of buttons as a tribute to my years of service. I was thrilled - for everyone on that board had heard me talk about buttons - probably far too often - but it meant that someone had been listening.

Actually one of the staff members had given me a wonderful tin of her mother's buttons several years ago and I was equally as thrilled.

Often when we receive gifts of buttons we know that there will be few that will add to our collection - this button jar was an exception. There were far more "good buttons" than I ever dreamed would be the case.

Throughout the meeting I tried to be polite and listen attentively, but I actually found that I started to say, "oh my", Oh Gee", OMG as i found three Golden Age Gilts! Many are in poor shape - which makes me smile as I can spend the winter fussing over buttons - cleaning and polishing. Many have already been placed on cards and some are ready for trading.

At the same time another Trustee brought me three buttons from France. What a thrill to open that box too.

Suffice to say, I am extremely grateful to everyone. Not only do I have a wonderful new collection of buttons but I also have a Zenda Farm milk bottle. The bottle comes from the 1930s model farm built on the west side of Clayton, NY, and is now owned by The Thousand Islands Land Trust.
